Join The National Ballet of Canada in Nathan Phillips Square on June 22 for the FREE live broadcast from the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts of the National Ballet’s inaugural performance. The live broadcast begins at 6:30 on a giant screen under a large tent and will be hosted by Rex Harrington. Please arrive early.

The performance includes an introduction by Karen Kain and these pas de deux drawn from the ballet repertoire performed by Principal Dancers and Soloists of The National Ballet of Canada:

  • Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux
  • a pas de deux from Herman Schmerman
  • Grand pas de deux from Don Quixote
  • First Waltz from Désir
  • Bluebird pas de deux from The Sleeping Beauty
  • Romeo and Juliet before parting
  • Grand Pas Classique

Russian Canadian Cultural Aid Society
The Russian Cultural Aid Society (RCCAS) was founded in 1950 as a non profit organization. It is run entirely by volunteers. The Society's mission is to promote and maintain rich Russian cultural traditions and help new immigrants integrate into the Canadian way of life. Concerts, lectures, folkdancing, drama club, chess club were some of the activities organized by RCCAS. The RCCAS participated in "Caravan"(a very popular Toronto festival) for 24 years! The name of its pavilion was Novgorod. Guests were greeted by princesses in traditional Boyar costumes and enjoyed lovely concerts as well as great food. In fact, Novgorod won the award for Best Food and Hospitality on numourous occasions. RCCAS continues to participate in cultural festivals in Toronto and the GTA, and to provide social and cultural support to Canadians of Russian origin. The Society welcomes all Canadians to participate in events, enjoy concerts, and various artistic performances and to experience the culture and traditions.

Sweet Success at the Chocolata

Награждение Фотографов Победителей Выставки в Кафе «Шоколата»

В пятницу 26 мая в кафе «Шоколата» состоялось подведение итогов конкурса фотографов любителей и награждение 15 победителей, набравших наибольшее количество голосов посетителей кафе. Проголосовать мог каждый пришедший в кафе и заказавших кофе, чай или сладости. На протяжение последнего месяца люди приходили не по одному разу, целыми семьями с детьми и друзьями и выбирали понравившиеся фотографии. Некоторые интересовались возможностью купить фото.
На стенах кафе поместилось около сотни фотографий, выполненных в разных жанрах и техниках. Были чисто любительские фото стиля «я был здесь», но были и совершенно профессиональные работы с необычным ракурсом, художественной композицией и постановкой света. Были представлены разные жанры: пейзаж, портрет, макросъемка, архитектурные композиции, работы в цвете и черно-белые, снятые цифровой или пленочной камерой. Владельцы кафе – приветливая русская пара, а среди участников конкурса были, наверно, представители практически всех общин Торонто.
Церемония награждения была милой и неофициальной. На столике выставили 15 призов – нарядные упаковки с чаем, кофе, конфетами, забавные кружки - каждый призер подходил и выбирал себе подарок по вкусу.
Присутствовавшие гости пожалели, что не участвовали в конкурсе. Надеемся, что в будущем году владельцы кафе не побоятся забот и труда и снова организуют подобную выставку-конкурс.

Cafe Chocolata: the Awards Night
On Friday, May 26th in the Cafe Chocolata was held the award night of 15 amateur photographers who got the highest amount of votes the visitors of the café during the photo exposition. Everyone who came to the cafe and ordered coffee, tea or sweets could take part in a ballot for an art work. People have come several times to choose the adored photos; there were whole families with children and friends to support the works of their beneficiaries. Some folks were interested in the possibility of purchasing their favourite photographs.
Almost one hundred photos of different genres and techniques were displayed on the walls of the cafe. There were photos in a memorabilia style ‘I’ve been there’, but, also there were extremely professional works with the extraordinary foreshortening, art composition and setting of light. The different genres have been represented: a landscape, a portrait, a macrophotography, architectural compositions; works in colour and black-and-white, digital or film media.
It looks like among the participants of this friendly competition were representatives of practically all ethnic communities of Toronto. The ceremony of awarding was warm and informal. There was a little table with 15 prizes: elegant packing sets with tea, coffee, sweets, and amusing mugs. Each winner chose a lovely gift.
There were visitors who have regretted that did not participate in this First Exhibition of Amateur Photographers. We hope that in the nearest future the owners of the Café Chocolata can run next exhibition-competition.

Amateur Photography: Works of Art, Works of Hearts

This small and incredibly hospitable café initiated their First Exposition of the Amateur Photographers in April-May 2006. The diversity of objects, landscapes, architectures, flowers, animals, pets, people; the diversity of styles, techniques, and experiences are incredible. Just come and you will experience it.
The organizers get encouraging feedback from the Chocolata’s clients who liked the idea of an exposition of the amateur photographers and its implementation as a photo gallery.
Each of photographs is a winner. The votes were counted on May the 12, 2006, and the Awards Night will be held on Friday, May 26, 2006 at 7:00 pm.

We hope that this function can become a part of CONTACT Toronto Photography Festival which spreads annually across the GTA in May.

My choice was #32.



Это небольшое и невероятно гостеприимное кафе организовало в апреле-мае 2006 свою первую выставку любительских фотографий. Разнообразие объектов, пейзажей, архитектуры, цветов, животных, домашних животных, лиц; разнообразие стилей, методов и событий невероятно. Приходите и убедитесь сами.
Организаторы получили положительные отзывы от своих клиентов, которым понравилась идея проведения выставки любительских фотографов.
Каждая из фотографий - победитель. 12 мая были подсчитаны голоса отданные за понравившиеся фотографии и в пятницу, 26 мая в 7 часов вечера будут названы победители.
Мы надеемся, что эта выставка могла бы стать частью КОНТАКТА – ежегодного фестиваля фотографии проводимого в Торонто в мае месяце
