Details
As part of the 2019 Retrospective, we are pleased to announce the launch of our new book "Persephone's Eden: A Celebration of the Life and Works of Michael Reeves”. The book is a visual delight showcasing many of Michel's well-known works as well as previously unseen early paintings. The book is punctuated by a series of essays contributed by Michael's family, friends, colleagues, collectors and critics, detailing his life from his early days and studies as a student at the Bath Academy of Art, through his career as an antiques dealer in London and Toronto, to his transition into full time painting and the eventual restoration of his Port Perry studio and property following his death.
Michael Reeves is arguably one of the last Neo-Romantic painters of his generation. His peers and mentors have been Directors and Trustees of the Tate and National Galleries in England. In 2005, Joan Murray considered his works a "triumph of individualism". The book title, "Persephone's Eden" is named after the land where he and his wife Norma found their place in paradise on Lake Scugog in 1984, the works Michael produced there are the product of his dream come true.
Through this book, we hope to create a deep understanding and appreciation for Michael and his extraordinary works and to shed light onto his contribution to the world of international and Canadian art.
Along with a selection of paintings from his most prolific phase during the late 1980's to early 2000's in Port Perry, the Retrospective in 2019 is the first time any of Michael's 1950's works have ever been shown.

The book launch will be held at the Latitude 44 Gallery in Toronto on May 16th from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

A message from the Junction Residents' Association:

With another year comes another Function in the Junction.

The Function in the Junction is the Junction Residents Association’s annual fundraiser.  Over the last 3 years, junction residents and local businesses have raised over $20,000 for great local causes.

This year, the Junction Residents Association is supporting the work of the Monday Art Group of the Red Wagon Collective.  The Monday Art Group was started in 2008 by the Red Wagon Collective.  They provide arts projects and programs for the residents of the Salvation Army-Evangeline Residence, present and past, at 2808 Dundas St West.

Currently the Monday Art Group has no funds, and our goal is to support them for one year, providing funds to pay for art supplies (consumable and tools), TTC tokens for out-of-Junction participants and to help facilitate the publishing of their works. More information on the Red Wagon Collective can be found on their website.

The 2013 Function in the Junction will be held on April 6, at the Masonic Temple, 151 Annette Street.

For more information, please visit The Junction Residents Association or contact info@junctionra.ca.

So it is really great for us that this year Function in the Junction is giving the proceeds of the event to the Red Wagon Collective. This will allow us to get the much needed materials we will need to keep the art group going for quite a while. With this funding we also hope to embark on new, strange and wonderful projects that we can share with the neighbourhood.

About The Fine Arts Studio Program

The Fine Arts Studio Program at Centennial College (Pape and Danforth) is an intensive, two year studio based course. It is well known for its hands-on, one on one approach to the creative process. Small classes, dedicated faculty and passionate students from across Ontario. Ask any of the students, and they will tell you It has earned its well deserved slogan as a place where you happily: "Get Your Hands Dirty".

Media about the Exhibition:

insidetoronto.com: College students get first taste of art life in real life
"... Janet DiBernardo sits on the Fine Arts Studio Program Advisory Committee and said she didn't hesitate when its professor and co-ordinator David McClyment, also a local artist, asked if Latitude 44 would host the show. Last year, she spoke to Centennial College students in the program about how to get involved with professional galleries. ..."

A message from the Junction Residents' Association:

The Junction Residents Association is gearing up for our 3rd annual Function in the Junction, to be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012.

Once again, our event will be held at the Masonic Temple located on Annette Street, beside the Library.

Last year's sold-out event was a tremendous success in raising funds and bringing our community together for a good cause.

The goal of the Function in the Junction this year is to raise money to provide assistance to students for post-secondary education. All funds raised will be distributed among students from six local schools. Recipients will not necessarily be chosen on academic merit but on community involvement, volunteering and personal circumstances.

We will provide a three-course meal. Appetizer, main course and dessert for $45 a ticket. The menu will offer four choices for appetizer and main ( beef, chicken or vegetarian), and three dessert choices. Dinner will be served between 6 and 8 p.m .

There will be a silent auction for the dinner crowd and a live auction from 8 to 9 p.m. After 9, local musicians have offered to entertain us, and we'll wrap up at midnight.

Tickets are now on sale at our sponsors: Agora Cafe, 3015 Dundas St.W and Latitude 44, 2900 Dundas St.W. When purchasing tickets, customers will have the opportunity to choose their menu.
