How Walkable Is the Centennial Junction? Almost a Walkers' Paradise!

We had a very insightful afternoon on the walk to the Local Option Art Awards tour led by Nathan Stroud and Tia Gillespie. It is a local art expo presenting works of 27 artists at 21 different locations across the "Junction City".

Max Roosevelt's posting "How Walkable Is Your Neighborhood?" in the NYT gave me an idea to check how art influences walkability of the 'hood'. I entered the Junction BIA's office address: "3042 Dundas Street West" and got a result:

Walk Score: 73 out of 100 — Very Walkable.

Yes, but this result is incomplete without information about local professional and impromptu galleries, without our centennial celebration, without the annual Junction Arts Festival, the Contact photography festival, and so on.

If we add all of those parameters to our WalkScore data we will get a result closer to 95 of 100. It is almost a walkers' paradise.

Next Local Option Art Awards guided walking tour will be on Saturday, August 23 at 2:00 pm, departing from the Railway Platform in the Junction City Square (2960 Dundas Street west at Pacific Avenue).
