Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival: Participate in CONTACT

Participate in CONTACT 2018

The Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival invites participation from photographic artists for May 2018, either as a Featured Exhibition or an Open Exhibition.

The Featured Exhibitions program showcases high-calibre exhibitions and recognizes exceptional photo-based projects. Featured Exhibitions are subject to a juried submission process, and are eligible for The Gattuso Prize, a $5,000 award that acknowledges an outstanding exhibition in the Festival.

The Open Exhibitions program provides a valuable opportunity to have photographic work exhibited in conjunction with other emerging and established artists, and to inspire and engage with the city through photography. Open Exhibitions are non-juried and are therefore accessible to all interested participants and exhibition spaces.

All artists/organizers must have a confirmed exhibition space in order to participate in CONTACT.

A participation fee applies:

Early bird fee (available until November 6, 2017)
$275 + HST

Regular registration fee (after November 7, 2017)

November 9-30, 2017 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox

This TIFF’s fall lineup includes a retrospective of Andrei Tarkovsky (1932-1986) films.

The Poetry of Apocalypse:
The Films of Andrei Tarkovsky

The first Toronto retrospective in 15 years devoted to the greatest postwar Soviet filmmaker, whose stark yet sumptuous, elemental yet metaphysical masterpieces placed him amongst the “poet geniuses” of the cinema.

When: November 9-30, 2017
Where: TIFF Bell Lightbox
Address: 350 King Street W, Toronto, ON M5V 3X5

From November 9 to November 30, The Poetry of Apocalypse: The Films of Andrei Tarkovsky highlights the work widely regarded as the greatest of the postwar Soviet era. Tarkovsky’s films are stark and elemental, while also remaining incredibly sleek and stylish (see: his signature tracking shots and pitch-perfect sound design).

TIFF will show the first retrospective of the filmmaker’s work in 15 years with two digital restorations of his sci-fi work Stalker (1979) and Solaris (1972).

This series also includes such masterpieces as The Mirror (1974) and his first feature Ivan’s Childhood (1962).

Also, on November 14, TIFF invites public for a screening of Tarkovsky’s mesmerizing sci-fi epic Stalker, preceded by a talk by Robert Bird, Associate Professor at the University of Chicago.

Junction Tree Refuses To Die

The magic and majesty of trees…and speaking of trees that refuse to die here is one from my neighbourhood that is going to get another chance from one of Toronto’s top arborists (seen through the leaves)…it is a Japanese Plum and quite rare for these parts...
