The exhibit "Essence" at Gallery 1313 is happening now until the 30th of March - the paintings by Anna Lobsanova are about the sacred power of nature. It expresses the mysterious sense of life by making the hidden visible. The symbolism and literal image of the vision of existence, the concept of energy and its unlimited power is the purpose of the paintings.

The way this message is transmitted is in a variety of styles, ranging from realistic to abstract portrayal of various subjects. There’s a theme of individual, stylized figures personifying a force of nature or representing the universal impression of being; and then there are abstract pieces that convey a primordial essence of life and its progress.

Anna Lobsanova is a recent graduate of the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD). She explores the incorporeal side of everything that exists everywhere. In her paintings she attempts to show, with colorful and clear imagery the enigma of life, the soul of nature, the possibilities that a person possesses, and the core of the immaterial energy.

It is the reality of the truth that life is an ever prevailing, omnipresent power which motivates Anna’s work. "I am inspired by the perfection and beauty of existence and believes that these absolutes are eternal," she says. "My goal is to manifest these ideals in my art by channeling a sense of vibrant harmony, so that by looking at the works the viewer can experience communication with the forces of nature," Anna concludes.

Essence is implicit in all reality and in this show the paintings serve the soul of being. They appeal to the spirit and question the perceptions about the unknown by pushing the limits of logic and imagination. Since essence is at the core of all things, the vision of life as an entity, as well as an all pervading force is what the viewer will see at the exhibit "Essence".

Artist Statement
"My work conveys the realm of imagination and attempts to uncover the unknown. I am interested in transforming and influencing the environment through art, creation and invention of nature’s design. I look at the basis of things, the invisible source and cause and explore the unseen and mystical aspects of life in order to connect and unify chaos. Some of my projects include a magazine, books, an artist group, and expressing my ideas, through various mediums such as film, music and design. Through experience and inspiration of nature I wish to reveal imperceptible power and design by expressing perfection."

Biography
Anna Lobsanova was born in Moscow, Russia and came to Toronto, Canada at the age of eleven. She has graduated from the Ontario College of Art & Design where she studied drawing and painting as well as multimedia. From an early age Anna began to play and compose music on the piano, it is one of the ways she expresses life. Anna also writes and researches about the mysteries of everything.

On February 20th, an exciting exhibit is opening in Toronto in the legendary Show Gallery at 978 Queen St. West, from 6-9 pm, entitled "Pictures of Peace". As the name suggests the theme of the exhibit is Peace, an issue as vital to the world today as never before, with the wars and struggles overshadowing human relations, it is inspiring to see artists join together for a cause to aid the planet. All the proceeds from sales of work will go to a Peace organization “The Canadian Peace Alliance”. It is an effort to promote harmonious coexistence, and mutual understanding among people.

The gifted artists participating in the exhibit were inspired to create paintings, jewellery designs, and pieces of art to bring a profound message of global cooperation, unity and respite from war. Perhaps exhibits such as this will influence more people to address the need for a just and caring environment on our only home of earth.

The organizer of the exhibit, Amber Pulleyblank, is an artist working at Inspirations Studio; she wanted to show peace and peace of mind and believes the world would be a more peaceful place if people found inner peace and happiness. This is truly what is important - to find a personal sense of comfort and fulfillment for respecting relations, compassion and humane interaction.

Everyone is invited to attend this extraordinary exhibit dedicated to peace.

Istvan Kantor is an artist known around the world by his "open pop star" identity – Monty Cantsin Amen. The movement behind this multiple persona pseudonym is "Neoism" which has been around since 1979 as an underground philosophy of performance and media experimentalists who share pseudonyms and identities to make their statements and action based art.

Istvan Kantor, the creator of Neoism and the original Monty Cantsin has been banned from most museums around the world for splashing his blood on the walls between valued artwork. His message was the idea of art itself, what is art? and what is not. By hanging a painting on the wall an artist leaves a mark and it is the museums that decide what art is; Istvan Kantor’s shocking act challenges the limits of artistic freedom and revolts against the control of established institutions. But according to Istvan Kantor, art is not necessarily those works of art that are in the museums, his statement of blood represents human body which is the source of art, the center of artist’s creation – it displays human life as a symbol and object of art.

When asked about his action based art, Istvan Kantor replies that the message is to help people in intense and emergency situations by confrontational, action art. "Things have to be done very fast and questions should be solved, extreme actions such as splashing blood trigger a reaction and exchange of ideas, the message goes through many layers of society, through media, courts, it’s a way I can communicate and bring attention to vital issues."

In today’s world, when art has no boundaries between good and bad and the concept of art itself is undefined it is important to know what is truly art and who is an artist. Being an all encompassing media artist, prolific in all artistic mediums, performance, video, music, and writing – Istvan Kantor received the Governor General Award in 2004 for his work. Controversial, subversive, rebellious, the art of Istvan Kantor has even been called demonic for his shocking action art. His art expresses the world today and Neoism is loosely defined as the culture of the new.

In the near future Istvan Kantor plans to continue his work in Neoism as Monty Cantsin Amen, and will have a special performance for the Junction Arts Festival, opening September 9 until October 9, at Smash, 2880 Dundas St. W. The persona of Monty Canstin is that of an honest and completely guilt free person who devotes his life and energy to make people’s life better. Neoism has an aspect of idealism and a belief in the better life through creative forces.

Having immigrated from Communist Hungary in 1977, Istvan Kantor travelled extensively around the world. He is an artist that reflects the different cultures, systems and views globally; who believes that we are biological beings, living a material existence in a scientific world, without the soul. The art of Istvan Kantor is an atheist art. A true artist is a messenger who expresses the truth. Ultimately Istvan Kantor makes us wonder about what the truth is and the value of human life.

The Group of Seven were a legendary group of Canadian landscape painters. The founder of the group J. E. H. Macdonald lived in a famous house, in Thornhill, Ontario. Due to the abundance of nature around the house, such as a variety of trees and garden vegetation, James Macdonald called the house the Four Elms, its rich natural environment became an inspiration for one of his greatest paintings: "The Tangled Garden".

The Four Elms house was frequented by many artists including members of the Group of Seven. At this historic house, on December 4-5, 2010, 10am – 5pm, there will be an exhibit and sale of art created by contemporary artists. Unlike the renowned Group of Seven, this group of artists are women working in a variety of artistic mediums, including jewellery, ceramics, photography and painting. Everyone is welcome to visit this remarkable house and see the fascinating art creations by these diverse women artists.

The J. E. H. Macdonald House is a 4-acre territory located at 121 Centre Street in Thornhill. The parking is available at the Holy Trinity Church at 140 Brooke St.

The exhibit will feature live music and unique works of art in the rooms of the magnificent house. Enjoy the exhibit and buy original and creative gifts for the holidays. Experience the fine tradition of Canadian art and the new works by today’s contemporary artists.
