2007 @ artjunction.blogspot.com

Today is the 62nd Anniversary Celebrations of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Victory Day is our celebration of the end of the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War.
On 9-th of May we honour our veterans: our parents and grandparents who have passed all burdens of this war, and we recollect their main dream of the future: World peace and that any war has never repeated.

-National D-Day Memorial Dedicates the W.E. Stevens Family Victory Garden-

"Kids, gardening, history, veterans, and a national monument. How are they connected? On Friday, March 9 the National D-Day Memorial dedicated the W.E. Stevens Family Victory Garden.

Several years ago, the Director of Education at the National D-Day Memorial determined that a Victory Garden would be the perfect project for young people. Victory gardens were very popular during World War I and World War II because they ensured an adequate supply of food to civilians and to troops. By 1944, over 40% of the nations vegetables were from Victory Gardens. Schools, factories, businesses, government agencies and the general public worked together to provide land, seeds, and proper instruction on how to plant a Victory Garden and harvest the results. Millions of gardens took root in window boxes, vacant lots, on rooftops, and in backyards. The National D-Day Memorial is now planting its own garden to educate visitors on the importance of the homefront during World War II."
