When Art Meets Street
An Exhibit by the 2010 Junction Arts Festival Team

Arts festivals in Toronto and around the world are pushing boundaries and exploring new ways of engaging the public by commissioning and presenting situational, outdoor art works.

The wealth of art available to the curators of the 2010 Junction Arts Festival was greater than the time and space available could allow.

This exposition will share some of the pieces of art the public didn't get a chance to see during the festival weekend, using a combination of maquettes and newly realized works. It will also provide a thought-provoking look into the challenges of street festival art, and opportunity for the community to give feedback on the future of the Junction Arts Festival [what these festivals can and should do for their audiences].

"I like the Junction. The Junction, for you out-of-towners, is an artsy neighbourhood in Toronto's west end, near Keele and Dundas. This weekend is the Junction Arts Festival so we made the short walk to check it out."

"Arts are those aspects of the human life that appear to be necessary, educational or entertaining, depending on the needs we have when we find a few minutes a day to return towards art. ...
the eclecticism in art proposed by the Junction Art Festival in Toronto does nothing else but to remind you that we need art in our daily life."

"Many Torontonians are lining up to get their TIFF tickets this weekend, but tucked away in High Park and Dundas Street West is another festival. It’s the Junction Arts Festival which kicked off last night to an enthusiastic crowd and although it may be smaller than TIFF, it still certainly has a lot to offer."
