"Beyond Words: Photographers of War" features interviews with, and photos by, twenty-four of the world's top photojournalists as they reflect on the intense, often conflicted, and always fascinating relationship they have with their work.
Photographs shape our understanding of war. A naked girl running down a street after a napalm attack. The execution of a VietCong prisoner. Mass graves in Bosnia. Hooded torture victims of the Iraq War. But the people who take the photos are largely unknown to most people. Why do they do it? What price do they pay? What does their work actually matter? "Beyond Words: Photographers of War" features interviews with, and photographs by, 24 of the world's top photojournalists. Penetrating beyond the oft-repeated justification of the need to bear witness, it offers a searing, troubled and fascinating portrait of who war photographers really are.
Following the screening, there will be a Q&A session with the producers, Greg Kelly and Eric Foss of CBC News: Sunday.
