The third annual Toronto Design Offsite Festival will show the best in Canadian design at over 40 exhibitions and events across the city, from unexpected prototypes to immersive installations.
Toronto Design Offsite is a not-for-profit, indie design festival happening annually at the end of January. TO DO‘s aim is to provide exposure for local and national designers; to foster public understanding and knowledge of the practice of design; and to create an ongoing presence that promotes Canada’s creativity, drawing on great thinkers, practitioners, and educators to deliver an innovative celebration of art and design.

Leading off this year with a Junction Kick-off Weekend
January 19-20, 2013
New to the Toronto Design Offsite Festival this year is the Junction Kick-off Weekend! Anchored by the intersection of Dundas Street West and Keele Street, the Junction neighbourhood follows Dundas Street West and is an emerging art and design district. During the Junction Kick-off Weekend, visit 10 events and exhibitions at ARTiculations, East of Keele, Forever Interiors, Latitude 44 Gallery, Mjolk, Opticianado, Post + Beam Reclamation, Smash, Telephone Booth Gallery, and The Hair Lounge.

The Warm-Up: Fire-Building in the Junction
Saturday, January 19, 6-9 pm | Sunday, January 20, noon-3pm
Location: The Junction Train Platform at 2960 Dundas Street West (1/2 block east of Pacific Ave)
The Warm-Up: Fire-Building in the Junction project to construct a fire pit at the train platform of the junction was set in motion by Marcin Kedzior and Noah Scheinman and involves students from Interior Design, Industrial Design, and Architectural Technology from Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning.

Through Brothers Dressler's continued exploration and experimentation with ash wood a pattern of growth has emerged. The small sapling is expanding. Its sprawling branches sprouting new buds of glowing light. This wall lighting system is part of their Ash Out of Quarantine project.

Automatic/Revisited is an installation that explores the creation and implications of experimental systems of construction. The reconstruction of a historical Frank Lloyd Wright system is fitted opposite its contemporary reinterpretation, creating a dialogue between two progressive ideas in architecture.

[7] Smash - Product Launch

Smash | 2880 Dundas Street West | Reception
Smash is unveiling shelving units based on salvaged 19th century library shelves. Smash has updated the bookshelf by rendering its parts in aluminum and mixed wood and metal, as well as introducing colour. The reformatted shelves are suitable for domestic application and include a stand-alone unit as well as built-in, cantilevered option.

Claesson Koivisto Rune + Mjölk is an opportunity to showcase the work of Sweden's most iconic contemporary architect firm: Claesson Koivisto Rune. The exhibition will be in part a retrospective, and feature new projects including the international debut of a collaborative work between Claesson Koivisto Rune and Mjölk.
