Junction Arts Festival

This festival is pulling in major talent with performers ranging from musician Justin Rutledge to dance company The Chimera Project. With a large juried art exhibition and area shops acting as venues for multimedia, music, video and performance art installations, we may be looking at the next West Queen West. Dundas Street West (between Keele Street and Quebec Avenue).

Beginning Thursday, September 6, the Junction Arts Festival will present the 2007 Juried Art Exhibition. Four Junction area galleries will exhibit work from over 50 visual artists, as selected by the 2007 Juried Art Exhibition Committee. The pieces will be exhibited in traditional settings at Latitude 44 Gallery (2900 Dundas St. W.), Urbanscape Gallery (2959 Dundas St. W.), the Academy of Realist Art (2968 Dundas St. W.) and Gallery One Zed Two (2975 Dundas St. W.).

The presentations cover a wide range of influences, forms and styles such as still life paintings, figurative paintings, animation, graphic design, portraiture, photography, film and video, drawings, caricatures, landscapes, architecture, mixed media sculpture, illustrations and digital imagery.

The artists have studied in a number of disciplines at respected institutions the world over, and are self-taught and classically trained. Their work has been exhibited internationally in esteemed galleries all over Canada, India, Italy, Mexico, England, Spain, Germany, Japan and throughout the United States.

“This year’s Junction Art Festival will be the best ever! For the first time, the 2007 Juried Art Exhibition artists will be exhibiting in true gallery settings in the heart of the Junction. We are extremely excited about exhibiting more than 500 pieces for the juried show. The number of participating artists has more than doubled this year, no doubt due to the lovely venues,” states Juried Art Committee and Junction Forum for Art and Culture board member Colleen Johnston.

Each gallery will host an opening night public reception on Thursday, September 6 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., where the Juried Art Exhibition award winners will be announced.
